Mushroom hunting
The woods around San Vigilio di Marebbe are very famous for their abundance of mushrooms. Many guests visit San Vigilio in the time when mushrooms grow, because they know, that they won’t just enjoy some wonderful and unforgettable holidays in the Dolomites, but that their vacancies will be sweetened by some profitable mushroom hunts. Porcini, chanterelle mushrooms, button mushrooms and green agaricus are the most widespread species, but there are many more and experts are free to chose from the large variety.
It is though very important that mushroom pickers strictly observe the regulations of the area where they pick and that they help maintain the natural productivity of the forest soil and the beauty of the wood.
Mushroom permits:
In San Vigilio di Marebbe as well as in other areas of South Tyrol, the mushroom harvest is regulated. Harvesters are required to communicate their personal data to the competent authority and to purchase a mushroom picking permit (€ 8,00 per person a day).
For the area belonging to the municipality of Marebbe, the permit fee can be paid at the tourist office of San Vigilio.
Mushroom harvest is permitted:
on even days only
• from 07.00 to 19.00
• up to 1 kg per person a day
• harvesters must be at least 14 years of age
Important:
The woods and meadows of the Marebbe municipality are mostly private land and must be respected as such. Mushrooms can be picked everywhere, except where the harvest is expressively interdicted by signposts. In these areas, harvest is reserved for farmers only. We remind our guests that the applicable regulation of private property must be observed also when parking. Motorized vehicles must therefore be left in car parks, outside the woods and meadows and in such a way, that they don’t disturb people or hinder agricultural traffic on forest trails or closed access roads.
All mushroom harvest activities are controlled by the agents of the forestry commission of Bolzano.
