Nordic walking in the Dolomites
Nordic walking

Like all of the South Tyrol, the Plan de Corones holiday area, with San Vigilio di Marebbe and San Martino in Badia in the forefront, are the true Alpine and Dolomite heartlands of Nordic walking.

Fresh, healthy air, grass and woodland fragrances and always well looked-after footpaths make aerobic walking to the rhythm of walking poles even more enjoyable and healthy. Whilst Nordic walking, as it is universally known, originated elsewhere, it should not be forgotten that the first people to make use of walking poles uphill, even before downhill, were the Dolomite mountaineers and, more generally speaking, the heroes of the great treks. Ski poles were used then but the concept of facilitating aerobic upper body exercise, in harmony with lower body strength, was also prompted by the special help these give in high mountain hiking. Today all routes lend themselves to the benefits of Nordic walking exercise and the San Vigilio and San Martino footpath panoramas are a great incentive to do it here.
