Welcome to San Vigilio Dolomites! In our destination, we have the privilege of enjoying pristine nature and a unique cultural heritage. As guests in a region where 56% has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sustainability is especially close to our hearts. We are committed to respecting and preserving this unique beauty for the world.
Our goal as a tourism cooperative is to promote and support sustainable tourism in our destination. Therefore, we are proud to have been the first destination in South Tyrol to receive GSTC certification (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) in 2021. Established by the United Nations in 2007, the GSTC is a non-profit organization that sets global sustainability standards for destinations, accommodations, and tour operators.
The GSTC certification indicators are designed to implement the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and are divided into four main areas covering the pillars of sustainability:
Sustainable destination management | Socioeconomic sustainability | Cultural sustainability | Environmental sustainability
In addition to the San Vigilio-San Martin Tourism Cooperative, seven accommodation providers have also been recognized for their development and holistic vision of sustainable tourism. This recognition followed a detailed assessment analyzing all aspects of their management.
Furthermore, we have received the South Tyrolean Sustainability Label, a sustainability standard specifically developed for our province.
These certifications ensure balanced development in harmony with the environment and the local community. They provide practical guidelines on how tourism can remain a valuable resource without compromising the culture, quality of life of the local population, and the preservation of natural resources. San Vigilio Dolomites thus stands as a model for responsible tourism management.
Achieving these certifications is merely a starting point for us. Our identity, lifestyle, and values, which have always been closely tied to respect for our environment, drive us toward continuous improvement. Together with you, we face the important task of respecting and protecting the surrounding area, so we can continue to enjoy its beauty and preserve it for future generations.
In addition to the GSTC certification of the San Vigilio-San Martin Tourism Cooperative, seven accommodation providers have been recognized for their development and holistic vision of sustainable tourism. This recognition followed a detailed evaluation analyzing all aspects of their management.
Our goal as a cooperative is to increase the number of environmentally certified accommodations in our area, further raising awareness and attention to issues such as environmental, cultural, and social protection.
We are proud to showcase our certified accommodations, which we hope will serve as a model for many others.
For us, sustainability is a lived practice that guides all our actions. Here we present some of our best practices implemented to protect the environment around us, with the hope that they may serve as an example for citizens and responsible tourists alike.
